Quick History of Diamond Grinding Wheels

Abrasive compounds for grinding and abrasive machining are contained in grinding wheels. Grinding machines also employ these wheels. Composite materials are used to make the wheels. A cementing matrix (called the bond in grinding wheel terminology) presses and bonds coarse-particle aggregate together to form a solid, circular shape. Different profiles and cross-sections are available depending on the wheel's intended use.

A solid steel or aluminium disc with particles adhered to the surface can also be used. The majority of grinding wheels nowadays are artificial composites constructed with artificial aggregates; however, the history of grinding wheels dates back to natural composite stones like millstones.
